Healthcare IT Information Systems

Data analysis has always been an integral component of SHC’s perioperative assessments. At the beginning of a typical best practice analysis, we ask the client to send us 12 months of electronic OR case records so we can process and analyze them. In earlier days at SHC, it was common to receive several boxes of paper OR case records in response to this request, but that is seen rarely today. Almost all ORs today use some kind of perioperative information system for OR scheduling.

We continue to find, however, that these very expensive OR information systems are seldom used as the powerful scheduling tools they were designed to be. Some key components are not implemented or provide limited functionality, and scheduling personnel are often insufficiently trained to make optimal use even of the components that are fully functional.

Fortunately for our clients, SHC’s IT consultants are uniquely qualified to help them with their perioperative information system challenges. In addition to having in-depth understanding of vendor systems and surgery best practice processes, SHC’s consultants have extensive experience in the design of highly effective surgery management reports. SHC consultants also have the clinical OR experience and the information technology skills to assure a properly planned and successfully implemented IT project.

Replacing older legacy perioperative systems is a complex and expensive process that can result in costly project overruns, delays, and/or sub-optimal systems. SHC consultants understand the difficulties faced in committing internal resources to build and test a new system, train staff to use the system, and maintain the system after the exciting “go live” moment is in the rear-view mirror. We believe that our knowledge about perioperative best practices, IT systems, and the information management reports required to keep a perioperative suite running efficiently give SHC the consulting edge over non-OR consulting companies.

SHC offers a full range of perioperative, sterile processing, and healthcare IT consulting services. For more information on this or other topics, call us or complete and submit the form found at the Contact Us link in the navigation pane.
